All aboard to Colorado!
Join for this unique tour of Colorado's historic trains and national parks.
Day 1: Home pick up to O’Hare Airport for our flight to Denver. Visit the Air Force Academy and Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Check into the Drury Inn and enjoy a relaxing night.
Day 2: After breakfast, meet our shuttle at the hotel for our adventure to Pike’s Peak ascending 5 different life zones to some of the most beautiful views in the country. Explore the Garden of the Gods to view magnificent red sandstone rock formations. This evening, enjoy a reception and share your experiences of the day.
Day 3: Board the Royal Gorge Route Railroad for a vintage train ride along the Arkansas River deep below the Gorge. Travel to Salida for exploring the historic rail town. This afternoon, visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park for sightseeing in this phenomenal expanse. Dinner and overnight in Alamosa.
Day 4: All aboard the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and be transported back to 1880! 64 Steam driven miles of untouched history awaits. Travel to the old west town of Durango for a two night stay.
Day 5: Visit Mesa Verde National Park and see the cliff dwellings of the Anasazi, who lived almost a thousand years ago. This is the nation’s largest archeological preserve with 4,000 sights and cliff dwellings. After a fascinating tour of the park, return to Durango with free time to explore this fun western town on your own.
Day 6: We hop on board the Durango & Silverton Railroad today for a wonderful ride through the Colorado Rockies between Durango and Silverton. Marvel at the rugged peaks, alpine meadows and crystal lakes and imagine those early days of the West. Enjoy free time in Silverton. Later, meet our motor coach for a scenic drive north to Grand Junction for dinner and hotel stay. Before ending the evening, visit the Colorado National Monument where over time, wind and water have carved sheer, walled canyons, spires and gorges from the orange and red sandstone.
Day 7: As our tour draws to a close, we travel through the heart of the Rocky Mountains and enjoy the rugged canyons, pristine wilderness and deep gorges. We’ll cross the Continental Divide at Loveland Pass, descending on the “mile high city” of Denver. Stop at the Colorado Railroad Museum to learn of history of this area from 1860’s to present time. Check into our hotel and enjoy a farewell manager’s reception!
Day 8: After a relaxing breakfast, transfers are made to the Denver airport for our return home.
